Thank you for stopping by my website, my name is Ellie Ellison and I am a multimedia painting illustrator based in Las Vegas, Nevada.  I was born in Nevada, moved to Forida for 9 years where I ended up completing my AA and Batchlors, and moved back to complete my Masters.

My work focuses on the reality of life beyond death and removing the negative stigma loss carries, through the philosophical concept Amor Fati. Amor Fati is a radical mindset of actively embracing and loving everything that happens in life—including pain, suffering, setbacks, and losses—rather than just tolerating them. I use my personal experience of being a survivor of suicide loss for 7 years and my search for amor Fati. Treating loss as uncomfortable and unapproachable polarizes victims, especially in extreme scenarios like mine, and can cause them to feel shame for something out of their control. I believe that by portraying all parts of grief genuinely and honestly, can help circumvent singularity and hopelessness.

 

 In my work I repurpose framed canvases from secondhand stores and combine textured mixed media like tile grout, found items, and oil pastels, with acrylic paints to subvert expectations of what fine art is supposed to look like, and to give my pieces more personality. Framed art is often donated from estate sales and people selling their past loved one's stuff, so instead of letting them get discarded, I choose to restore and breathe new life into them.
